They don’t believe in hourly billing that creates an impression of “churning” out unnecessary fees and that hinder attorney/client communication because of a fear of running up charges while “on the clock” during most telephone calls. They don’t believe in passing through overhead charges like long‐distance telephone calls, copying costs, fax transmissions, postage or even the significant fees associated with the use of research databases. They view those costs as part of their overhead, not as an opportunity to profit from “mark ups.”
Their financial model is focused on the concepts of guaranteed fees, economical communication with clients, and discounts for advance payment and multiple services. On most matters clients know before work begins exactly what the entire fee will be for the specific services needed. There aren’t any surprises. This structure often results in a smaller bill than if the client were billed on an hourly basis.
